The Training and Workforce Development Lab conducts basic and applied research in two major areas. First, we investigate factors influencing individual and team learning and transfer of training to the workplace. Second, we study skill-related and motivational issues involved in the job search and career planning process for new job entrants and the unemployed. Our research has resulted in numerous scientific publications as well as applied tools and strategies currently in use to support training and development efforts. Kim Smith-Jentsch, Ph.D., the lab's director, is an assistant professor in the psychology department of the University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida. Dr. Smith-Jentsch is a recipient of the M. Scott Meyers award for applied research (Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology) and is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Applied Psychology.
